Texas Cracks Down on Distracted Driving

by Michael Trevino | April 2, 2012

The Texas Department of Transportation recently announced it has launched the “Talk. Text. Crash.” campaign to curb distracted driving and texting while driving.

Despite recent data analysis for the Lone Star State indicated a slight drop in crashes and fatalities, distracted driving behavior continues to be a main cause of traffic-related accidents and fatalities across the board.

“The issue of distracted driving is widespread, and we are committed to educating Texans about the dangers of engaging in non-driving activities while on the roads,” said Carol Rawson, traffic operations division director at TxDOT. “The ‘Talk. Text. Crash.’ campaign gets right at one of the major distractions – cellphone use – and reminds motorists to focus on the No. 1 priority when behind the wheel, and that’s driving.”

Distracted driving not only affects the safety of drivers and their peers, but it also has a negative impact on auto insurance rates. Drivers who practice safe driving behaviors and stay away from tickets as well as accidents could also find themselves in the driver’s seat for lower auto insurance coverage costs.Comparing auto insurance quotes online will give any driver a solid indication of how much a policy will cost them.
